Does TinyTax act as my HMRC agent?

TinyTax is filing software, not a registered HMRC tax agent — so it isn't something you can register us as, and it wouldn't unblock most HMRC-side issues even if it were.

Why TinyTax can't be your registered agent

When you file a CT600 with TinyTax, the return is sent to HMRC as coming from the company itself, using the company's own Government Gateway credentials — not from an agent acting on the company's behalf. TinyTax doesn't hold formal HMRC agent authorisation for any customer's company, and there's no sign-up flow to grant us one, because that isn't how the service is built to work.

The same applies on the Companies House side: accounts filed through TinyTax go through our own software-filing presenter account using your company's six-digit authentication code, not a personal or firm-level agent registration.

What "Tax agent" means in the filing screen

You may have seen a "Tax agent" option when submitting a CT600. That's for the opposite situation — where you (or your accountant) already hold your own separate HMRC agent authorisation for the company, and want to file using those agent credentials instead of the company's own Government Gateway login. It doesn't register TinyTax as an agent; it just tells HMRC which set of credentials is filing.

If you're stuck on an HMRC identity or authentication check

Registering an agent wouldn't change this: identity verification (including the Government Gateway / GOV.UK One Login checks for non-UK resident directors) is something only you, or someone formally authorised for the company, can complete directly with HMRC. TinyTax has no channel to intervene in HMRC's identity verification process on your behalf, whether or not an agent is involved.

If you already work with an accountant who holds formal HMRC agent authorisation for your company, they may be able to help directly with HMRC using their own agent credentials — that's a relationship between you and them, separate from TinyTax.

Common Questions

Can I add TinyTax as my agent in my HMRC account?

No — TinyTax doesn't operate as an HMRC agent for any customer, so there's nothing to add us as. Filing through TinyTax uses your own company credentials (or your own agent's credentials, if you have one).

Does using a "Tax agent" filing option mean TinyTax is my agent?

No. That option is for filing with credentials from your own, separately-authorised HMRC agent — it doesn't create any agent relationship with TinyTax itself.
