Self-Service CT600 and Accounts Filing: What the Software Does and Doesn't Do

TinyTax is a self-service filing tool — it gives you the software and infrastructure to prepare and submit your own Corporation Tax (CT600) and Companies House accounts. We do not employ accountants, and no one at TinyTax reviews, prepares, or submits anything on your behalf.

What TinyTax does

  • Guides you through a structured online form to enter your company's financial figures
  • Automatically calculates your Corporation Tax liability from the figures you enter
  • Generates your accounts and CT600 documents in the correct technical formats (iXBRL for Companies House, XML for HMRC)
  • Submits the completed documents directly to HMRC and Companies House over their official filing gateways — when you click the Submit button

What you do

  • Enter your company's financial figures (profit and loss, balance sheet)
  • Review the auto-generated documents before submitting
  • Submit using your own credentials:
- For HMRC (CT600): your 12-character Government Gateway User ID and password - For Companies House (accounts): your 6-character company authentication code

Does TinyTax need to see my bookkeeping records?

No. You enter summary figures directly — turnover, expenses, assets, liabilities — not individual transactions. If you use bookkeeping software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage), you can export a trial balance and import it to speed up entry. There are no document uploads required.

Do I need an accountant?

Not necessarily. TinyTax is designed to be used by company directors who handle their own administration. If your company has straightforward figures (a small trading company or a dormant company), most users complete their filing without professional help.

If your accounts are complex, or if you are unsure about any figures, an accountant can advise on the numbers before you enter them. TinyTax is the filing tool — the accountant can prepare the figures, and you (or they) enter them here.

What about a company with no profit or turnover?

If your company has had no trading activity — no income, no significant expenses — you can file a dormant CT600. This is a simplified return that takes only a few minutes to complete. No P&L or balance sheet figures are needed for a genuinely dormant company.

For Companies House, dormant accounts (form AA02) can be filed directly through Companies House WebFiling for free if the company has had no accounting transactions. If the company has had any transactions (even paying Companies House fees from the company bank account), micro-entity accounts are more appropriate.

A TinyTax subscription is required to submit. See the pricing page for current plans.
