Changing the Accounts Signing Date (Approval Date)
TinyTax uses the date you enter in the Approval Date field to set the signing date shown on your accounts. This is the date on which the director approved the accounts for filing. By default it is pre-filled with today's date, but you can change it to reflect the actual date the accounts were approved.
Where to Find the Approval Date Field
The Approval Date field is in the Declaration section of the filing form — scroll to the bottom of the form, past the balance sheet and notes sections. It appears alongside the Director Name dropdown (the director who is signing off the accounts).
How to Update the Signing Date
- Open your filing form for the relevant company and period
- Scroll down to the Declaration section
- Find the Approval Date field and enter the correct date (for example, if the accounts were approved in December, enter that December date)
- Click View Draft Submission to regenerate the preview — the updated date will appear on the accounts PDFs
Common Questions
Does changing the approval date affect my CT600?
No. The approval date only affects the accounts documents (balance sheet, P&L, notes). Your CT600 and tax computation are not changed.
What if my accounts have already been filed at Companies House?
If you have already filed accounts at Companies House and are now filing only the CT600 to HMRC (using CT600 only mode), the accounts are not included in the HMRC submission. In CT600 only mode, TinyTax sends HMRC the CT600 and tax computation only — no accounts or balance sheet are attached. The accounts remain visible in your session preview for reference, but they will not be transmitted to HMRC or Companies House.
This means the approval date on the accounts in your TinyTax session has no bearing on the HMRC submission in CT600 only mode.
Why does the date reset to today when I return to the form?
The approval date defaults to the current date each time you start a new session or regenerate the preview without saving a specific date first. Make sure to enter the correct date and then immediately click View Draft Submission to lock it in before regenerating.
