How It Works

1

Start a filing that includes accounts

2

TinyTax looks your company up on the Companies House register

3

Last year's filed balance sheet is read from those accounts

4

The prior year comparative column populates automatically

5

Check the figures, or type them in yourself if nothing was found

Who Benefits?

New Clients

Taking over from another accountant? If last year's accounts are on the Companies House register, the comparative column fills itself — no need to chase the old files for those figures.

Returning Filers

Filed with TinyTax last year? Your own previous return is carried forward too, so brought-forward balances and comparatives start where you left off.

Dormant Companies

A sparse dormant balance sheet — share capital only — still carries across, so a dormant filing needs almost nothing typed in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do these figures come from?

From your company's own annual accounts on the public Companies House register. TinyTax reads the balance sheet out of your last filed accounts and uses it for the prior year comparative column.

Do I need to connect TinyTax to HMRC for this?

No. There is no HMRC connection and nothing to authorise. HMRC does not provide a way to retrieve a previously filed CT600, so no software can fetch one — if you need a copy of last year's return, it is in your HMRC Business Tax Account.

Which figures does it fill in?

The prior year balance sheet comparatives only. Your profit and loss figures and this year's tax computation are always entered fresh for the current year.

What if nothing is found?

It works best when last year's accounts were filed in iXBRL and the period end matches what Companies House holds. If the fetch finds nothing — a first year of trading, or accounts filed in a format we cannot read — just type the prior year column in from your previous accounts document.
