Who Benefits?

Holding Companies

Companies set up to hold an asset or trademark with no trading activity — file dormant year after year with minimal effort.

Companies Between Trading Periods

Paused trading temporarily? File dormant for the inactive period and switch back to trading next year — same dashboard, same data.

Shelf Companies

Companies incorporated but never traded. File the first dormant set without paying for software you don't need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as dormant?

For Companies House, a company is dormant if it has had no significant accounting transactions during the period. The only transactions that don't count are Companies House filing fees, penalties for filing accounts late, and money paid for shares when the company was formed. HMRC's test for Corporation Tax is different: a company is dormant if it isn't trading and has no other income. If you're unsure, check with HMRC or your accountant.

Do I need to file a CT600 if dormant?

You only need to file a CT600 if HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one (CT603). If you've had a notice, you must file — and TinyTax files dormant CT600s with the correct flag so HMRC accepts them without computations.

What about the dormant accounts to Companies House?

Companies House requires dormant accounts every year regardless of HMRC status. TinyTax generates them in iXBRL micro-entity dormant format and files them directly to Companies House.

Is dormant filing cheaper?

Dormant filings are included in the same TinyTax plans as trading filings. Solo covers one company, Portfolio covers unlimited — see the pricing page for current rates.
