Hi Keith — thanks for being honest about this, and I understand the frustration. Filing for the first time is stressful enough without an unexpected cost on top.

A bit of context on the £59, because it's easy to read it as a one-off "filing fee" and it's actually broader. It's an annual subscription that prepares and files both of your statutory year-end submissions:

• your Corporation Tax return (CT600) and computations to HMRC, and
• your statutory accounts to Companies House,

with the iXBRL tagging, the tax calculations, and support if you get stuck. For a micro company that's normally the job an accountant charges £150–£500+ for.

There is a free route — HMRC's own joint filing service — but it's fiddly for first-timers, and HMRC are closing it on 31 March 2026, which is part of why tools like ours exist.

That said, I hear you that £59 is a real cost for a micro company, and feedback like this genuinely shapes how we think about pricing. It's an annual subscription you can cancel — there's no lock-in — and if there's anything specific making the filing harder than it should be, just reply here and I'll help you get it done.

On the VAT point — I understand why that feels odd, so to clarify: the 20% is standard UK VAT that we have to add to our price, the same as you'd see on most business software or on an accountant's invoice. It applies whatever your own company's VAT position is — being not VAT registered just means your company doesn't charge VAT on its own sales; it doesn't exempt the things it buys. (If you ever do register, you'd be able to reclaim it.) So the total works out at £70.80 including VAT. Either way, happy to help you get the filing done whenever you're ready.
