Dormant account filing with fixed assets
My company did not trade during the last financial year, however it still owns the fixed assets (cameras) previously provided in the last accounts report. Do I need to file for a dormant account, as company did not trade despite still owning the fixed assets? Do I also include the costs of the fixed assets in the upcoming accounts, as they were included already in the last one submitted?

**CT600 (HMRC): file as dormant**
If your company had no trading activity during the period — no sales, no income, no significant transactions — it counts as dormant for corporation tax purposes, even if it still owns assets like cameras. Owning fixed assets doesn't make a company "trading". So yes, select **Dormant Company** as your company type when you start the CT600 filing.
**Companies House accounts: you'll need micro-entity accounts, not dormant (AA02)**
This is where it differs. Because your company still holds assets on its balance sheet, you can't file dormant accounts (AA02) at Companies House — those are only for companies with zero assets and zero liabilities. You'll need to file micro-entity accounts showing the balance sheet position.
The good news is TinyTax handles this for you. When you start your filing, choose **CT600 and Accounts** (or Accounts only if you've already filed the CT600). The form will ask for balance sheet figures.
**What to enter for the fixed assets**
Yes, include the cameras. Enter the **net book value** at the period end — that's the original cost minus all accumulated depreciation to date. If the cameras were worth £3,000 when purchased and you've charged £1,000 of depreciation in total across all prior years, the net book value is £2,000, and that's the figure for Fixed Assets on the balance sheet.
Since the company was dormant (no trading), your P&L will be nil — no turnover, no expenses. The balance sheet simply carries forward the same asset values (adjusted for any depreciation you've calculated in your prepared accounts).
If you have any cash in the company bank account, include that in Current Assets alongside the fixed assets figure.
