VAT, PAYE, and CS01
TinyTax does not currently support VAT, PAYE, or confirmation statements. Here's what we do support and where to file these.
Does TinyTax support VAT returns, PAYE, or confirmation statements? Not yet — TinyTax specialises in corporation tax (CT600) and Companies House accounts. This guide explains what we do and don't cover, and where to go for the services we don't offer.
What TinyTax Does
TinyTax handles two specific filings:
| Filing | Where it goes | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| CT600 | HMRC | Your company's corporation tax return |
| Micro-entity accounts | Companies House | Your company's annual accounts |
VAT Returns and Making Tax Digital (MTD)
TinyTax does not support VAT returns or MTD for VAT.
VAT is a separate tax with its own filing requirements and deadlines. If your company is VAT-registered (or needs to register), you'll need dedicated VAT software.
Where to File VAT
| Software | Notes |
|---|---|
| HMRC's free MTD service | Free, basic — suitable for simple returns |
| FreeAgent, Xero, QuickBooks | Accounting software with built-in MTD VAT filing |
| Dedicated MTD software | Many options available on HMRC's recognised list |
Can I Still Use TinyTax for CT600?
Absolutely. Your VAT filing and CT600 are completely independent. File your VAT through MTD-compatible software, and file your CT600 through TinyTax.
PAYE (Payroll)
TinyTax does not support PAYE or payroll.
PAYE covers employee wages, tax deductions, National Insurance contributions, and Real Time Information (RTI) reporting to HMRC. It's a separate system from corporation tax.
Where to Handle PAYE
| Software | Notes |
|---|---|
| HMRC Basic PAYE Tools | Free for up to 9 employees |
| FreeAgent, Xero, QuickBooks | Include payroll features |
| Dedicated payroll software | BrightPay, Sage Payroll, etc. |
PAYE and Your CT600
Your employee costs (salaries, employer NI) are a business expense and reduce your taxable profit. When filling in your CT600 on TinyTax, include these costs in the Staff costs field on the P&L — they'll reduce your corporation tax bill automatically.
CS01 — Confirmation Statement
TinyTax does not file confirmation statements (CS01).
The CS01 is an annual filing to Companies House confirming your company details are up to date (registered address, directors, shareholders, SIC codes). It's separate from your annual accounts and CT600.
Where to File Your CS01
File your confirmation statement directly with Companies House:
- Go to Companies House WebFiling
- Log in with your Companies House credentials
- File online — it takes about 5 minutes

Common Questions
Q: Will TinyTax support VAT in the future? A: We're focused on making corporation tax filing as good as it can be. VAT is on our radar but there's no timeline for it yet.
Q: Can I submit my VAT through TinyTax? A: No. VAT returns must be filed through MTD-compatible software. See the list above for options.
Q: I use TinyTax for CT600 — do I need separate software for PAYE? A: Yes, if you have employees. PAYE and CT600 are independent filings. Many accounting packages (FreeAgent, Xero, QuickBooks) handle both payroll and bookkeeping.
Q: My company doesn't have employees — do I need to worry about PAYE? A: If you're a director taking a salary, you'll still need to run a payroll scheme and report via RTI. If you only take dividends (no salary), you don't need PAYE.
Q: When is my CS01 due? A: Your confirmation statement is due at least once every 12 months from your company's anniversary date (or the date of your last CS01). This is different from your accounts and CT600 deadlines.
