Why Your HMRC Account Does Not Show Your Corporation Tax Filing Yet
Why this happens
When you file a CT600 through TinyTax and receive an "accepted" status, this means HMRC's Transaction Engine has successfully received and validated your submission. However, the HMRC Business Tax Account — the portal you log into at gov.uk — updates on a separate schedule.
It typically takes 4 to 6 weeks after a successful submission for your HMRC online account to reflect the new filing. During this period, the portal may show zero figures or appear unchanged from before you filed.
What "accepted" means
When TinyTax shows your filing as Accepted, HMRC has confirmed receipt of your CT600. The submission is complete and you have met your filing obligation. The status in your TinyTax dashboard is the authoritative record of your filing.
What to do
You do not need to refile. Your submission has been accepted.
- Check your TinyTax dashboard — if the status shows "Accepted", your filing is confirmed
- Wait 4 to 6 weeks for your HMRC Business Tax Account to update
- If it has been more than 6 weeks and your portal still shows no record of the filing, contact HMRC directly on 0300 200 3410
Paying your corporation tax
Even if the portal has not updated yet, your corporation tax payment deadline is based on your accounting period end date — not the date the portal updates. Check your TinyTax dashboard for the calculated tax due, and use HMRC's payment reference (your UTR followed by "A" for the accounting period) to pay on time.
Common Questions
Will I receive a penalty if the portal shows zeros?
No. HMRC's systems record your filing independently of what the portal displays. Accepted status in TinyTax confirms your filing obligation is met.
How do I check my filing was definitely accepted?
Log in to TinyTax and check the Submissions page for your company. If the status shows "Accepted", HMRC has confirmed receipt.
