Filing for Dissolved or Struck-Off Companies
Can You File for a Dissolved or Struck-Off Company?
TinyTax files CT600 returns and Companies House accounts for active UK limited companies. Unfortunately, filings cannot be processed for companies that have already been formally dissolved.
Why TinyTax Cannot File for Dissolved Companies
When a company is dissolved, it no longer appears as active on the Companies House register. TinyTax fetches company data, filing obligations, and accounting periods directly from Companies House — once a company is dissolved, this information becomes inaccessible and the system cannot load or generate filing documents for it.
If HMRC Has Issued a CT600 Notice Post-Dissolution
HMRC can still issue notices to file corporation tax returns for periods that ended before the dissolution date. If you have received such a notice, you will need to use an alternative approach:
- Other commercial CT600 software — Several providers support filing for dissolved companies. Search GOV.UK for "HMRC approved corporation tax software" for a list of approved providers.
- An accountant or tax agent — A qualified accountant can file the return on your behalf using professional software.
If Your Company Is in the Process of Being Dissolved (But Not Yet Dissolved)
If your company is still showing as active on Companies House — even if you have applied for voluntary strike-off or are in the early stages of dissolution — TinyTax can still file CT600 returns and accounts for it.
Use the custom dates feature to set the exact period start and end date if the period is shorter than a full year:
- From your dashboard, click Start Filing ▾
- Select CT600 only (or CT600 and Accounts)
- On the filing form, click "Need to file for different dates?"
- Choose Other reason, then enter your period dates
- Proceed with the form as normal
If Your Company Is in Administration (Formal Insolvency)
Companies in formal administration are typically still active on Companies House while the administration is ongoing. If your company is in administration and still shows as active, TinyTax can generally be used to file CT600 returns. However, the administrator appointed to manage the company is usually responsible for tax filing obligations — check with the appointed insolvency practitioner.
Common Questions
My company was dissolved but HMRC is still asking me to file. What do I do?
HMRC obligations do not automatically disappear when a company is dissolved. For periods ending before the dissolution date, you will need to file using alternative CT600 software or engage an accountant. See the options above.
Can I still use my account for other companies?
Yes — dissolving one company has no effect on your TinyTax account or your other companies. You can continue to file for any other active companies in your account.
