CT600 Values Missing or Blank — Common Causes and Fixes
Some CT600 boxes appear blank in the preview — this is normal for certain fields like the UTR, and fixable for others. This guide explains why and what to do.
Box 3 — Tax Reference (UTR)
Box 3 (Tax Reference) will always appear blank in the CT600 preview. This is by design — your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) is entered at the point of submission, not on the filing form.
When you click Submit Corporation Tax on the preview page, a popup will appear asking for:
- Your Company UTR (10-digit Corporation Tax reference)
- Your Government Gateway User ID
- Your Government Gateway password
If you have already entered your UTR somewhere on the filing form, it will be pre-filled in the submission popup. You can also type it directly there if needed.
Box 145 and Other Financial Figures
The CT600 is generated directly from the figures you enter in the filing form. If Box 145 (Total turnover from trade) or other boxes appear blank, here are the most common causes:
1. Company type is set to Dormant
If your company type is set to Dormant, no P&L section is shown on the form — so there are no financial figures to flow into the CT600. If your company is trading, make sure the company type is set to Trading at the top of your filing form.
2. P&L figures have not been saved
Each field in the CT600 is populated from a corresponding field in your filing form:
| CT600 Box | Source |
|---|---|
| Box 145 — Turnover | Turnover field in your P&L |
| Box 155 — Gross profit | Calculated from turnover less cost of sales |
| Box 165 — Net trading profits | After tax adjustments in the Tax Computation section |
3. Preview needs refreshing
After saving your P&L figures, return to the preview page (click View Draft Submission on the filing form). The CT600 is regenerated each time the preview loads — you do not need to start your filing again.
4. Your income is property rental income (not trading turnover)
If your company earns property rental income (rent from residential or commercial lettings), this does not flow through Box 145. Property rental income uses a separate section of the CT600:
- Box 145 (Total turnover from trade) will be blank — this is correct and expected
- Your rental income appears in Box 190 (Income from property business)
- Box 190 flows through to Box 235 (Profits chargeable to corporation tax)
This is HMRC's standard treatment — property income and trading income are reported in separate sections of the CT600. If your company has only rental income and no trading activity, Box 145 will always be blank, and your CT600 is still correct.
Filing for Multiple Companies
Each company must be added and filed separately from your dashboard. If you have two or more companies to file for, add each one individually — they will each have their own separate P&L, balance sheet, and CT600.
Common Questions
"I entered my figures but they are still blank"
Try scrolling to the bottom of the filing form and saving, then navigate back to the preview. Also check you are looking at the correct company's filing — the dashboard shows each company separately.
"Where exactly do I enter the UTR?"
You do not enter it on the main filing form. It is entered in the submission popup when you click Submit Corporation Tax on the preview page. If you are not sure where to find your UTR, it appears on any letter from HMRC about Corporation Tax — it is a 10-digit number.
"My company has property rental income — why does Box 155 show a value?"
Box 155 shows your tax-adjusted trading profit. For a pure property company this will typically be zero, with profits appearing in the property income section (Box 235) instead. If Box 155 shows a figure, check whether your company also has trading income, or whether figures have been entered in the wrong section of the P&L.
