How to file your confirmation statement (CS01)

File your company's confirmation statement (CS01) directly through TinyTax — no need to log in to Companies House separately. This guide explains what a CS01 is, how to file it, and what it costs.

What Is a Confirmation Statement?

A confirmation statement (formerly called an annual return) is a filing you make to Companies House at least once every 12 months. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about your company is correct — things like your registered office, directors, SIC codes, and persons with significant control (PSCs).

The confirmation statement is separate from your annual accounts and CT600. It has its own deadline.

When Is It Due?

Your confirmation statement is due at least once every 12 months from your company's statement date — usually the anniversary of incorporation or the date of your last CS01. You have 14 days after the statement date to file.

Example: If your statement date is 15 March, you must file by 29 March.

You can see your statement date and deadline on your TinyTax dashboard under the Confirmation Statements tab.

What Happens If I File Late?

Companies House can take action against your company if you don't file on time, including:

  • Proposing to strike off your company
  • Criminal prosecution of directors (in serious cases)
There's no financial penalty like HMRC's late filing penalties, but the consequences can be severe.

How to File Through TinyTax

Step 1: Go to the Confirmation Statements Tab

Log in to TinyTax and click the Confirmation Statements tab on your dashboard. You'll see all your companies with their statement dates and deadlines.

Step 2: Click "File Confirmation Statement"

Click the filing button next to the company you want to file for. You'll see a review page showing all the company information that Companies House holds.

Step 3: Review Your Company Details

Check that everything is correct:

  • Registered office address
  • Directors and secretaries
  • SIC codes (you can edit these if they've changed)
  • Persons with significant control (PSCs)
If any details are wrong (other than SIC codes), you need to file the relevant change form with Companies House <strong>before</strong> filing your confirmation statement. For example, use form AD01 to change your registered office, or form AP01 to appoint a new director.

Step 4: Enter Your Authentication Code

Enter your company's Companies House authentication code (6-8 characters). This is different from your Companies House WebFiling login.

If you don't know your authentication code, you can request one from Companies House. It's sent by post and usually arrives within 5 working days.

Step 5: Confirm and Submit

Tick the confirmation checkboxes, then click Submit Confirmation Statement. Your CS01 is filed electronically with Companies House.

Pricing

Confirmation statement filing is available as a per-company annual subscription. The price includes the £50 Companies House filing fee — you don't need to pay Companies House separately.

This is a separate subscription from your CT600/accounts plan. Each company that needs a CS01 filed requires its own subscription. Visit your billing page or the CS01 form to see the current price for your account.

The subscription price includes the £50 fee that Companies House charges for every confirmation statement. You don't need to pay Companies House separately.

What Can and Can't Be Changed in a CS01

You CAN update through the CS01:

  • SIC codes — edit directly in the TinyTax form

You MUST update separately (before filing CS01):

  • Directors and secretaries (forms AP01/TM01)
  • Registered office address (form AD01)
  • Persons with significant control (forms PSC01-PSC09)
  • Shareholders and share capital (forms SH01/SH02)
These changes must be filed as separate forms with Companies House before you submit your confirmation statement.

Common Questions

Q: Is this the same as an annual return? A: Yes. The confirmation statement replaced the annual return in 2016. It does the same job — confirming your company details are up to date.

Q: How much does it cost? A: Check the CS01 form or your billing page for current pricing. The price includes the £50 Companies House filing fee.

Q: Do I need to file a CS01 if my company is dormant? A: Yes. All companies registered at Companies House must file a confirmation statement, whether trading or dormant.

Q: Can I file early? A: You can only file on or after your statement date. You can't file before that date.

Q: I've already filed my CT600 and accounts — do I still need a CS01? A: Yes. The confirmation statement is a separate filing with its own deadline. It doesn't replace your accounts or CT600.

Q: What's the authentication code? A: It's a 6-8 character code from Companies House that proves you're authorised to file on behalf of the company. It's different from your WebFiling login. Request one here if you don't have it.

Q: How do I cancel my CS01 subscription? A: Go to your billing page to manage your subscriptions. CS01 subscriptions appear under "Company Add-Ons" and can be cancelled individually.
